CAHME (Commission on Accreditation of Health Management Education)
Before you begin your Masters in Healthcare Administration Education, there are two names you need to familiarize yourself with. CAHME, for choosing a quality Masters Program, and AUPHA, for networking during your MHA schooling.
CAHME
There’s no doubt that in your search for the right health care administration program, you came across the word CAHME, which stands for the Commission on Accreditation of Health Management Education. It is the only agency authorized by the United States Department of Education that oversees accreditation of health service education programs and industries. Accreditation is “a process in which certification of competency, authority, or credibility is presented.” (Wikipedia). In other words, if your university or Master’s program isn’t accredited by CAHME, it has not earned the highest stamp of approval for healthcare education.
CAHME only rewards accreditation to universities and programs that meet the highest quality standards. To see the ruling criteria, check out CAHME’s accreditation criteria here. The Commission aims to :
- Set criteria for excellence in healthcare management education
- Support and assist healthcare programs to meet the criteria and constantly improve
- Accredit graduate programs
- Make healthcare industry information easily available to interested parties
